The World’s First Instagram Eye Test

During my time working on For Eyes Optical, I learned a lot about eye care and eye health. In particular, I learned that looking at our phones all the time can lead to a variety of different eye problems. So, I thought, what if looking at your phone could be a step toward taking care of your eyes. And the world’s first Instagram eye test was born.

The idea came from looking at my own Instagram grid and realizing that we could turn it into an eye chart. We worked with For Eyes’ opticians to help us determine the size of the letters in our grid and how far someone would need to hold the phone away from themselves to be able to successfully complete the eye test. Turned out, holding the phone roughly around selfie-length was perfect for the test. Then, we got the word out on social, and let people know how to take the test. On the grid, we had posts with instructions on how to take the test and then make an appointment.

The result? We saw a 33% increase in appointments at locations across the country.
